Little agreement exists as to what measures should be used for assessing the impact of family violence programs on offenders. The usefulness of three self-report scales for measuring treatment-related changes in men who have participated in programming for family violence offenders is explored. The assessment instruments investigated were the Inventory of Beliefs About Wife Beating (IBWB), the Index of Controlling Behavior (ICB), and the Multi-Dimensional Anger Inventory (MAI). Only IBWB and MAI had subscales (3 and 1 respectively) that detect changes in abusers' attitudes and behavior following participation in treatment programs.
