The utility of geographic information systems (GIS) for research and practice in corrections was the focus of this meeting. Computerized crime mapping applications for probation, parole, community justice programs, state corrections, and institutional corrections was discussed. The luncheon presentation was entitled "Combining Police and Probation Research to Reduce Burglary: Testing a Crime Analysis Problem-Solving Approach." Open discussion addressed other possible applications of mapping to corrections, barriers to overcome, and what the Crime Mapping Research Center (CMRC) could do to promote GIS.
