Family Group Conferencing: Implications for Crime Victims

Characteristics of potential problems of and guidelines for family group conferencing (FGC) models used in New Zealand and Australia and replicated in some U.S. communities are presented. Issues addressed include: the history of FGC; similarities and differences between FGC and victim-offender mediation (VOM; five potential dangers of FGC; eight guidelines for FGC; concluding observations; and what is restorative justice.
