Adult Corrections Officer Core Training Course Manual [Lesson Plans]

An outline of units and modules of the 176-hour core training course incorporating curriculum and design specifications is presented. This manual has the following sections: introduction; overview; summary of changes to the curriculum; core training course and unit schedule; instructional objectives and design specifications; test by instructional objective index; instructional objectives by core task index; instructional core tasks; and the supplemental core course to the POST Basic Academy. Units of this manual include: California criminal justice system orientation; codes; statutes, and other legal documents; professionalism and ethics; classification of inmates; contraband; interpersonal, tactical, and practical communications; assaultive behavior and restraint techniques; booking and receiving; releasing; maintaining security; reporting and record keeping; supervising inmates; distribution of supplies and commissary; monitoring psychological and physical health; management of inmate workers; screening and monitoring of visitors; screening and distribution of mail; transport outside of facility; emergency procedures; testifying in court; and physical tasks.
