The core curriculum, design specifications, and benchmark minimums for Units 22, 8, and 20 of the Adult Corrections Officer Core Course (NIC accession no. 016486) that deal with performing physically demanding tasks are presented. Sections of this manual include: introduction -- purpose, goals, and roles; testing procedures; instructional guidelines; instructional objectives; detailed instructions for practice sessions; and an on-going plan to enhance physical abilities. Appendixes provide sample forms, assessment tables, calculation of training heart rate range, rating of perceived exertion, additional exercises, equipment vendors, and instructor training providers.
