A Second Look at Alleviating Jail Crowding: A Systems Perspective

Examples of practices that have been successful in alleviating jail overcrowding are presented. This document contains the following chapters: introduction and overview; anatomy of the criminal justice system; information needs for a systemwide strategy; systemwide approach -- how individual actors can affect jail population; and systemwide planning to alleviate and prevent jail crowding.
