This booklet is based upon selected sections from the longer report called "Breaking the Cycle of Drug Use Among Juvenile Offenders" (NIC accession no. 015581). The following sections comprise this document: preface; introduction and purpose; the juvenile drug-crime cycle; breaking the cycle -- what works (key strategies and major elements of a comprehensive model); important intervention-related considerations (evaluation, a caution--ethnicity and culture, additional guiding principles, and core role of the juvenile justice and treatment systems); implementation at the local level; and conclusion.
