The Bureau of Prisons' strategy for the prevention of drugs from entering its correctional facilities is examined. This report is comprised of the following sections: executive digest (summary); introduction; and results of the inspection (e.g., the BOP's drug problem, stopping the supply of drugs at the primary points of entry, reducing the demand for drugs through drug abuse treatment, and other opportunities for improving drug interdiction. The appendixes provide information about: drug abuse treatment programs; contacts and site visits; categories of inmate drug tests; positive drug test rates by institution security level; definitions of 100-level misconduct charges; drug misconduct charges by institution security level; visiting policy and procedures; mail policy and procedures; requirements for authorizing volunteers and contractors; glossary of acronyms; BOP's response to the draft report; and OIG's analysis of the BOP's response.
