Mental Health Treatment for Youth In the Juvenile Justice System: A Compendium of Promising Practices

"This document lays out what is currently known to be effective practices through evidence-based research, and what promises to be effective practices" (p. 1). This report contains the following sections: introduction and overview; promising practices (e.g., multisystemic therapy, functional family therapy, wraparound, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and multidimensional treatment foster care); special populations in the juvenile justice system; promising practices and programs; and what doesn't work (e.g., punishing juveniles in adult prisons, youth curfew laws, and juvenile boot camps).
