Gideon's Broken Promise: America's Continuing Quest for Equal Justice: A Report on the American Bar Association's Hearings on the Right to Counsel in Criminal Proceedings

The delivery of adequate and efficient defense services for indigent individuals is examined. Following an executive summary are these nine parts: introduction; problems in indigent defense -- lack of adequate funding, inadequate legal representation and structural defects in indigent defense systems; strategies for reform; model approaches to providing services; main findings; recommendations; and conclusion.
