A Vision for Justice: Report and Recommendations Regarding Wrongful Convictions in the Commonwealth of Virginia

Ways to improve the reliability of the Virginia criminal justice system, reduce the likelihood of wrongful convictions, and provide redress when wrongful convictions have occurred are explained. This report contains an executive summary and five parts: introduction; summary of factors that have contributed to wrongful convictions and suggested criminal justice reforms; summary of cases; research and recommendations -- best practices for eyewitness identifications, interrogation procedures, discovery practices, unwarranted focus on single suspect or "tunnel vision," defense counsel, scientific evidence, and post-conviction remedies; and conclusion.
