Results from the first general study of offender recidivism in Alaska are presented. Seven parts following an executive summary are: measures of recidivism; offender characteristics; recidivism rates three years after release according to type of offense, location of offense, age, ethnicity, indigent offenders, number of prison convictions, alcohol problem indicators, drug problem indicators, mental health indicators, and gender, types and seriousness of new convictions; timing of recidivism; factors that affected the likelihood that an offender would commit new offenses or go back to jail; and summary. Offenders have a 66% recidivism rate with most new offenses being committed within six months of release. Accession Number: 022167
